Our team continues to grow!
The first two female staff members of the NTTI sorting station on Bangka Island have been hired. One of the biggest benefits of official NGO status is that NTTI can now sign employment contracts in Indonesia. This means that the team can be expanded, contributing to local development, while we ensure that workers are treated fairly. Through our partnerships with the Murex, Sea Souls, Blue Bay and Coral Eye resorts, we are able to fund the employment of two local people to help us process the waste that is collected through our program.
We currently have a sorting station on Bangka Island. Here, plastic collected from beach cleans across the island is sorted by material type, bagged, weighed and recorded via the Cleanhub app. We collect rubbish from our partner resorts every fortnight, and the team also records this pre-sorted rubbish at our sorting station. We needed two enthusiastic and dedicated team members for this constant stream of waste. And so we now have the cheerful Eby and Rini on board!
